It is very likely that a nuclear device will be set off in teh US in teh very near future. But I asure you that if it is it will not have been done by the US Government.

We were so certain that the Cold War was going to last much longer than it did.

We need to remember that, aside from Korea and Vietnam, the Cold War was fought primarily on the ideological plane.

We won the Cold War sooner than our most optimistic dreams would ever indicate.

We were caught with our pants down.

We didn't have a plan in place to take optimum advantage of the victory when it came all of a sudden!

We should have had a plan in place to pay for the Russians to locate, quantify, and secure all fissile material !

With their broken economy, they didn't have the ability to pay for the security arrangements to make this happen.

In the meantime, there has emerged a black market demand for fissile material.

The Islamic terrorist networks have put out the word they are willing to pay millions to secure enough of this fissile material to make a number of nuclear bombs.

These are the kind of bombs that will be smuggled into this country and detonated on cue.

My guess is that their prime targets are Washington D.C., San Diego, and New York City.

The trillions of dollars we are spending on this foolish war in Iraq would have been better spent on radiation portals along all of our roadways, water fronts, border entry points, and cargo container processing facilities.

We need to have specialized vans that drive through city streets to pick up radiation readings of anything suspicious.

Special imaging devices have been designed to scan vehicles and cargo containers for hidden people and drugs.

We need those installed at our border crossings as well.

All we need is a disenchanted scientist in Russia's nuclear program to sell this fissile material on the black market for ideological and/or monetary reasons.

It could also be a former KGB operative who remains ideologically determined to do damage to the U.S.

Not every communist stopped hating us when the former Soviet Union collapsed !

So many former KGB operatives now work in the Russian Mafia.

They are some of the most ruthless people on earth and live only for the pleasures to be had in the here and now.

Al-Qaeda wants to inflict a level of damage and terror exponentially greater than what was exacted against us on 9/11.

They won't be planning or settling for anything less !

This war in Iraq is providing al-Qaeda the same kind of convenient distraction and cover the Republican harrassment and impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton provided in the 90's.

Of course not! Missiles, ICBMs, can be intercepted even before it reaches US air space.

But if the threat comes from within... that is the problem.

Now, you know why the authorities have to be very very strict in implementing security inside the mainland. Why they know what's inside your PCs, who you've been contacting with your phones, why they know everything about you. For security reasons.
