Question:

Are Yahoo! group owners allowed to ask for $?

I was invited to a group when it first started in Oct, 2007. I was a member of the original group for years and the group owner started a new group. I had been receiving mail as of yesterday (1/18/08).

All of a sudden my membership was deleted. I found this today when I clicked on the digest and could not get into the group to read the message from the message archive.

When I reapplied to the group, I got the following document:

Dear Prospective ETP Member,

Congratulations in completing the first step in signing up for the [group]. In order to complete the registration, please send a check (made out to the x*x) for $25.00 (annual membership fee) to: [mailing address]

and complete the profile below and email to [group owner].

Is this allowed?

I have been a Owner/Moderator and belong to 50 Yahoo! groups, but this is the first time I've ever had this happen!

Your input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ~ Jayne
