  1. .well,... not dangerous as tho they attack you...  they are pretty layed back critters all in all.

A female with kits will attempt to defend her burrow, but she wont give her life up over the kits.  She does her best to appear ferocious to a coyote, weasel, bob cat, dog, or the likes, but she is not equal to any of them in an out and out fight. And she knows it too.

The males are more assertive than the females at defense of dens, but they too are more fond of living, than aggressive to the point of foolish forfeiture of their life over pups.

Native Indians used the marmot hides for moccasins,.. the hide has a 'density' around the head and shoulders and down the ribcage that is tough and durable, so, it wears well and gave the Indians a finer, flexible, and thinner upper moccasin material to work with.

The Indians would dig into the den until one or both the adults tried to quite the den and clubbed the marmots as it tried to escape...  the meat was welcome as dietary addition to there rugged life style.

marmots hibernate.. true hibernation is sorta rare, but marmots have mastered it... not only do they hibernate in winter, but they will do a sort of hibernation in the middle of summer as well... or become almost nocturnal in there activity's.
