The birds need enough calories to keep warm this season.

Are you insuring that the birds are getting enough food during this cold by keeping your bird feeders full?

Are you also providing suet as well?

  1. i provide them with thistle, cuz i live in maine! weeeeee i love da birdies!

  2. You know feeding birds is artificial.  We are actually interfering with the natural course of their lives.  It would probably be best if we humans did not interfere with the birds.  Let them live and die as Nature dictates.

  3. If birds really needed to rely on people to survive they wouldn't be here.

People haven't always been around to give them seeds, so they would have all died hundreds of years ago, if they really couldn't survive without us.

But yes, My birdfeeder is full.

  4. THEY LEARN TO LIVE......

  5. If you start feeding birds you need to continue throughout the winter as they become accustomed where to look so if you stop feeding then its bad for them...

I dont feed birds other than BlueJays.. I am on a farm and our barn cats might be too tempted if I encouraged other little birds to come around.. plenty for the little guys to eat here anyhow... I am in Alberta Canada, we have only about 2 inches of snow and temps are way warmer than usual...

(not good cause farmers depend on water to start their spring crops)... anyhow the cats wont dare attack a BlueJay.. who also help themselves to the cat food on occassion...

  6. Are you for real?

  7. Absolutely, now is the critical time for feeding birds. As they are on their migratory path birds get stuck in some pretty bad weather on the way to their final destinations and depend on seed feeders for energy to make the long journey south.  I feed birds all year long cause we receive different waves of different species of foul all year long.  Fill the feeders as they run low, then chances are when a bird finds it it will have what it needs all winter long till its journey north.  Suet is necessary for woodpeckers and nuthatches, it is a good source of fat and protien since they cannot find bugs in the winter.  We even put out cracked corn, sunflower seeds, and peanuts and dry cat/dog food for the blue jays to feast on, they love unsalted in-shell peanuts. and the cardinals love the sunflower seeds.  Pour some on the ground fo rthe larger birds. Have fun and enjoy bird watching!

  8. I provide seed only from December through March.

With all the neighbours feeding our feathered friends I am thinking of developing a low calorie bird seed for them to help prevent obesity  (tongue in cheek).

  9. i proved food for brids all year long. so that if they need it they know were some is.

  10. I especially keep mine full in winter, as this is probably the time when many year-round species have difficulty finding food. I also try to keep my feeders sheltered under my patio roof, as well as keeping a wide variety of food available, including suet, as wintering birds tend to have more specialized diets.
