I know they're Zebras but aren't they horses? I mean they are horse like and related to horses right. Aren't they just African horses with Stripes? It's a serious question so please answer seriously. Thanks!

  1. Zebras are equids, members of the horse family.

  2. Yes they are both part of the same equus family.

  3. umm i think so im not actually sure but yeah i would say so

  4. No, they are different species...BUT horses and zebras can mate and produce a "zorse".  The zorse cannot reproduce though.

  5. No. Both belong to the family Equidae, but they are different species. Saying they are the same would be like saying a coyote is a wolf because they are both in the family Canidae. Zebras are actually more closely related to donkeys than horses - you can see the similarities in that both have longer ears than horses, and both have a tail that has a tufted end rather than being a mass of loose hair like a horse's. In Swahili the zebra is called 'punda milia', which means 'striped donkey'.

All living equids belong to the same genus, Equus, and are able to interbreed, though the offspring, like most hybrids, are usually sterile. Here's a picture of a zeedonk, a zebra-donkey hybrid:

  6. Same genus, different species. That would be like saying that a lion is technically a tiger.
