  1. Just play BCA rules and not worry about it.  You only have to make a legal jump shot (no scooping).  Jump, Massey, no 8 ball break being a win, Ball in hand on a foul.  Its pretty much the best way to play 8 ball.

  2. It makes no difference whether its accidental or not mate.

If the cueball jumps over a ball before its hit another ball or a cushion, its a foul.

  3. Actually, be careful.

Be sure your establishment allows for jumps. At least, jumps are not masse shots, which can destroy pool surfaces if you are not careful.

Generally, jumps are still trick shots, so they are usually not allowed (even though there is no damage to the surface) except in professional billiards.

  4. From an American perspective, if it's an accidental jump, it's ok.  About the only way it's accidental though is if you're aiming to do a draw shot and end up hitting it too low.  If you do this on purpose, it's a foul.  Either way, this has a high chance of damaging the cloth as much as masse shots.

From a British perspective, if you jump over a ball or part of a ball, it is a foul.

  5. yep 8ball has hit the nail on the head it aint like the bollocks american version(9 ball) its a foul if it jumps mate
