Are actual Irish pubs in Ireland, rough dangerous places on average?

I know there are exceptions to everything. But by and large would an Irish drink establishment be more dangerous to a stranger or foreigner than other similar places might be?

nope. and note alot of pubs here aren't 'irishy' at all. our culture is suffering a little and the 'pub' is being replaced by trendy bars and restaurants. pubs here are no more dangerous than anywhere else, unless they're in a dodgy area.

On average, no.  Although it depends what pubs you go into.  Have a look at the people walking in and out.  If they look rough and dangerous, then you're probably better off not going in!  We've got all types of pubs, you can walk in and walk back out if you don't like what you see.  Just keep in mind that pubs in most Irish towns are fairly basic (tourist towns like Kilkenny, Dingle, Killarney etc would have nicer looking pubs than most)

No,irish pubs are very welcoming except for some of the ones in the god forsaken backwaters of the country,were the staff look suprised when a customer comes in.

And i don't think pubs will care if you're a foriegner,it's really a non-issue,as long as you behave well.

When visiting Ireland, most city centre bars and clubs are usually fine.

As another poster said, in smaller towns and villages most bars are 'locals' where amost all of the clientele are the regulars, and if someone new walks in it wouldn't be too long before they are being interrogated as to where they come from etc...

I think you'll find that Irish pubs are great places to be in general. There's always going to be the exception to the rule but our pubs are great.

Rule of Thumb:  Anyone in Ireland who wears a tracksuit while not engaged in physical exercise is to be avoided.

There's rarely any trouble or fights in pubs because most have security who intervene and throw any troublemakers out.

if youre talking  about a traditional irish pub well then you will be as welcome as an irish person. but if youre talking about a night club, they can be dangerous
