Are all Blu-Ray films presented in a Wide-Screen Presentation Format?

Yes I have an HDTV and I use the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. I also have the HD cables.

Each time I rent a film in Blu-Ray it's always presented in Widescreen. But when you go to Blockbuster or Best Buy, they always present them in a full screen format and it looks amazing.

Is it in your television options? I know full screen lowers the quality of the image but the ones at Best Buy and Blockbuster are all full screen presentations and look amazing. Better than the ones on my TV.

My TV is one of the first HDTV's I think, so does it depend on the television. Can I change it to Full Screen with my television and reserve the quality. Are all Blu Rays widescreen?

  1. All HD is widescreen. The difference in picture quality you are seeing has nothing to do with the aspect ratio. Why didn't you tell us exactly what TV you have? And have you calibrated it? I have a 2000-era HDTV (Pioneer Elite Pro-610HD CRT RPTV) and it still looks amazing, but I keep it well adjusted. My newer LCD HDTVs (a Sony and a Toshiba) look crisper, though, because they're fixed-pixel. I suspect that is the difference you are noticing.

  2. it depends on the type of the input and the output device.

say if the TV support 16:9, but there is no option for 16:9 on your output device, then, you have to make it as a full screen from the TV option.

Most HDTV automatically chose the best format for viewing.

The movie, I believe come with a lot of format, 4:3, 16:9, Panaromic and anamorphic type.

If three of these rules fulfilled, the picture should come in full screen and beautiful.

TV support 16:9, device have the 16:9 capability and the disc also have the 16:9 format.
