I met an Irish lady on the bus in London, we spoke for a whole journey. At the day centres etc. the friendly people I get on with are nearly always Irish. Even the homeless Irish would buy me a drink, no English person has done that. Even the hard cases I met were friendly and generous. They never called me a ******* foreigner like the English, even though I AM born in England! (I dont have English accent). Before I returned to England I always thought and was told the Irish were nasty religious fanatics etc. having lived abroad I am not so clued up about Irish/England situation. Are they all so friendly or have I just not met any horrible Irish? Are they only friendly in England or in Ireland as well?

  1. Usually they are friendly unless they are an IRA terrorist. even then they will appear friendly before blowing you up.

  2. They are pretty friendly everywhere. I'm of Irish descent and I have friends that are as well and they are all friendly.

I also had a library teacher in elementary school who was from Ireland and she was as sweet as could be.

  3. most of us are friendly but u can get some nasty wagons 2 and we do all have our bad snappy moments like every 1. but us irish mostly have such a care free way of life and dont let things get us down!!! if something bad happens we smile and get over it quickly and we're always the first ones to laugh at ourselves and our mistakes

  4. Hi I have always found the Irish to be very friendly, once when i was in Dublin , my friends and i were taking photographs, it was early evening but it was in the winter and dark, an Irish lady heard us laughing and talking and came over to us she was on her way home after a day's shopping trip, she was lovely so friendly and she sat and talked to us for about half an hour, and she had her photo taken with us. She used to live in Cheshire Eng, and missed it. That memory will stay with all 4 of us forever. But not only was that lady friendly so have the Dubliners every time i have visited.

  5. the irish are nice one saved my day a few years back his name is mick branigan he lives near dublin he used to work for gerard hughes a haulage company near the docks wish i had his address as i'm going to kilarney for my hols and would love to buy him a guiness thanks mick.RADSTARyou be have yourself you naughty boy

  6. Irish are not nasty religious fanatics, who gave you that idea? Most of us are easy-going and friendly, but there are the odd cavemen who are unfriendly to foreigners, which is very sad. As a nation, we pride ourselves on our hospitality.

It sounds like you could communicate with us, you should up sticks and move to Ireland.

  7. We the irish, have always suffered from racial steryotypes, that were usually unfair or untrue, our closest neighbours were sometimes the perpretrators of thes inaccurate slurs, granted not all irish people are friendly, or sober thinkers, but despite the steryotypes we kept true to ourselves and never lost our kindness. Our donations to the third world have always been above our weight in the collective of  money raised in the western world, not to mention our thousands of missionaries and lay missionaries who help deliver aid. We are a fair race and give everyone a chance. where the religious fanatics comes from i dont know , sure there was a deep religious divide in northern ireland an to some extent there still is, but not to the extent that it once was, but we kept it between ourselves and also the english

  8. hi you

  9. hi, im irish :Pwe arent all religous fanatics lol i dont care about religion race or whatever else ppl make up to moan about its a waste of time, you get biggots everywhere, but generally other irish ppl i work with or know north & south are very sound ppl :P

  10. They're always drunk!

Edit - Widowman - My statement (above) is not a bad thing!

    Guiness and cider please!

  11. I think like every country you have your fair share of friendly people but also *******. But Ireland seems to have a fairly high percent of friendly people, I mean stuff happens that I wouldnt consider particularly friendly, like someone asking directions, you direct them and smile at them? Simple task that you dont much think of, but they go home thinking everyone is so friendly? Maybe we are?

  12. god i always thought Ireland was known as a nation of alcholoics, first time ive heard us been called religious fanatics, maybe you should do some research on ireland "cead mile failte" the land of a thousand welcomes

  13. Yes, we're friendly.  Why don't you come over for a holiday sometime and see for yourself?  The people advising you may have never been here either.  I don't have a clue where they might have got their opinions from.
