Are all Raleigh Sport's men's bicycles cabled this way?

I purchased a 1973 Raleigh Sport men's 3 speed bicycle. The shift cable winds over a Plastic cable router attached by a metal clamp to the frames seat stem post. Are all Raleigh men's Sport's bikes cabled this way? Can anyone tell me more about this part? This is original. Does anyone know where the serial number is on the frame? Thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Seat stem post? Do you mean to say that the little pulley is on the FRAME (SEAT TUBE) or on the SEAT POST (holding the SADDLE)?

If it is on the FRAME, yes, it is correct. If it is on the SEAT POST, it is not correct, but is occasionally done if the cable was replaced and the person that replaced it didn't know how to adjust the cable length.

The serial number should be in one of 3 places- on the bottom bracket (under the crank), on the head tube (near the headbadge at the fork), or on a rear dropout (where the rear wheel fits).

If you want an idea of the year it was made, wipe off the rear hub shell to remove what is probably 30 years of crud. The hub shell is stamped with the year of manufacture which should be close to the bikes date of manufacture.
