  1. They are all made out of fiberglass or plastic--that's so they will be flexible if you get hit.  A solution might be to add some small support rods/bars from the body kit to the body.

  2. you can get body kits in urethane, which are much more durable as they dont crack they just bend. And on top of that they dont make as many super ricy body kits that are urethane. You can keep a kit looking pretty good given you dont live out in the sticks, and dont drive like a complete moron. It just takes some care and maintenance.

  3. let me guess, your buddy had his car lowered so far it was sitting on the ground, he/friend installed it instead of a shop or someone who knew what they were doing, and it wasn't painted correctly. Sure after this they won't hold up very long. Now I've had a R34 body kit on my civic for 3 years, and had NO problems with it because it has 4 1/2 inches of ground clearance, had a FULL coilover set so it rides like a stock vehicle, and it has been through 2 paintjobs. But to answer your question you can get a urethane kit, which is the same material as your factory bumper. They also USUALLY fit just like stock with little or no modifications to bolt right on.
