I try to always look at the packaging and refuse to purchase products packaged in non-recyclable material. I've heard that all cans are recyclable. Is this true? Was just at the supermarket and purchased beans and tomatoes to make chili. While looking at the label, I realized that some labels read "Recyclable Steel" others said "Please Recycle". Are the cans that don't say anything recyclable? My husband says they are but I am not sure. Because for example plastic is not recyclable unless it has the recyclable symbol with a number inside it. Please help. I try my best to reduce my carbon footprint by bringing cloth bags to the supermarket, recycling, composting etc. Don't want my efforts to go to waste (no pun intended) by purchasing products thinking they are recyclable when they are not. Thanks for your help!

  2. 99% of cans are recyclable.  Ferrous Metals (Steel) and Aluminum are the most recycled consumer goods in the US.  To find your local recycling center, and see a detailed list of what they accept, check out earth911 (in sources)
