  1. Yes, they are sold as is.  If not as described, you should have seen that when you inspected it before sending out any cash.

  2. you learned the hard way. E(ripoff) bay. scam center.

  3. This is why it is so important to either have an in person inspection of the car done or have someone do it for you if the car is too far away. The person who implied eBay is just a ripoff doesn't know how to do business there. It can be a safe place to buy and sell as long as you do your homework. If the vehicle was not as described, you may have some recourse through eBay, even though the vehicle is sold as-is. Those are two separate issues. For example... If it was described as "rust free" and you found rust problems it would be a case of not being as described. I suggest contacting eBay and see what you can do. The Q&A area should have some tips on how to proceed.

  4. of course.  If you buy from your best friend, its AS IS.  Was there a material misrepresentation of the car?  If so, you might have some recourse with PayPal (assuming that is how you paid).  Otherwise, there is no better place to learn CAVEAT EMPTOR.

  5. ALL CARS ARE SOLD AS IS --- you have paid for a valuable lesson (and I'm not being smartalec) and it is not easy to accept that the seller lied about the ride  ---- never buy anything without looks and a spin around the block ---- if you paid by pay pal and bought the net-insurance you do have some recourse ....if you paid by bank cheque it is a done deal ... sorry for your loss ...
