Question:

Are all cat bites bad?

I read somewhere that some cat bites are just affectionate nips and you shouldn't stop those. But I don't like being bitten at all.

Can you totally train a cat to never bite (unless it's distressed or angry) or are they always going to be a bit unpredictable given they're animals!?

I'm just trying to kitten train and want to know I'm not expecting too much or too little.

Thanks

  1. When I play with my cats, when I use my hand and rub franticly their belly. They both end up biting my arm in some way. Its not painful, its just like.."Hey, I got you! I win!"

I think its natural cat behavior. You can try to train your kitten out of it.

  2. My cat, bites me when I don't give her the attention, She does it when im getting ready - she'll nip me!! Shes just saying, Look at me and stroke me!!

  3. I personally don't care if a bite is supposed to be affectionate. My cats don't bite or scratch me, period. So yes, they can be trained to not bite :) But only if you are consistent - so either they can bite you or they can never bite you - and determined. My 4 month old male is learning this. After a week he already knows that when I hold my finger up like a mother would to admonish a child that he has done something I disapprove of and sulks.
