  1. NO - NO commercial jets are automated during take off and landing.  Where are you getting your info.

The only aircraft that are fully automated are the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).  They are only used in the military in war zones.

    Good Luck...

  2. No. Many have the capability, but those, especially the landing, are the most difficult parts of the flight, and no pilot will trust the computer when he can put his hands on the yoke, and for good reason.

  3. Some planes have auto land.......Never herd of auto take off.

And the Guy above me..They Do it Manual, but every once in a while they do it with the autopilot to keep their skills sharp.

  4. Thy do it manually as much as possible, so they can practice for an emergency situation.

  5. Not all Commercial jets have automated systems.  It is called Auto-Pilot Assistant (APA) or Digital Control Assist System (DCAS).   DCAS allows aircraft to take off and land automatically.  It is usually used during bad weather situation where visibiliy is almost zero.

Commercial aircraft equipped with DCAS or auto control are:

    Boeing 777 and 767 series

Boing 747-400 (some previous models equipped too).

Boeing 787 (yet to be launched).

    A340 and long haul models.

Many of Cessna corporate jets and Learjets are equipped with variation of automated assistant systems.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Not while taking off, but those which have the capability, while landing, yes. In this case the category and type of landing system on board the aircraft and on the runway will determine the degree of automation while landing.

  7. No.  Some commercial jets have no flight automation.

  8. No.  Some commercial jets are equipped with a Class III landing capability - where the computer will land the plane - assuming the airport supports that capability - but most pilots won't turn the landing over to a computer unless there is no other choice (very heavy fog and nowhere else to go).

Nothing like the Blue Screen of Death just before touchdown.

  9. No.  Absolutely not.  Your flight crew are up there doing it for you, every day.

Go find the person that told you that, and kick them in the autoland--really hard!
