Or will I be able to get a hotel for 2 people, private bath and shower, near public transit for under $200? Any recommendations of non-scuzzy Hotels in London for under $200? Reviews look bad so far.

  2. Are all hotels in Beverly Hills $300 dollars a night? Not if you go to the cheap parts...

    TRAVELOCITY.COM!!!! Nome...

  3. yes, most of them are. London is a very expensive city- be prepared. Maybe work a little overtime before you leave for extra cash.

  4. It depends on what you expect.

Whenever I visit London, I only use my hotel room for keeping my stuff and for sleeping there. I'm not spending my time in an exciting metropolis like London sitting around in my room, but am out for 14 or more hours a day. So I opt for very cheap tourist hotels without much service to speak of. The rooms are often tiny, and the furniture and stuff old; but they should be reasonably clean.

You'll find many of these cheap tourist hotels around Earl's Court underground station, which is a very useful station for travelling around London.

The Oxford Hotel is one of them. The rooms are tiny and a bit worn out, have little frills, and often you have to queue for breakfast, because they have more rooms than tables; but I've always found it a reliable place to stay.

Seems they ask around $150-170 per room per night for a double en-suite or a twin en-suite.

  5. Two things to keep in mind.  First off, the exchange rate is in the toilet right now.  The American Dollar is really weak, and conversely Sterling is very strong.

Secondly, last I checked, London was the third most expensive city in the world.  More expensive than Tokyo or New York.  So you are going to get hammered on a hotel.

Last time I stayed in London, when I lived in the UK, was in the year 2000.  The best deal I could find was about $180.  And to say it was a budget hotel was certainly not an understatement.

I have honestly never stayed in a nastier hotel in my life.

Also in the UK, it is common to charge per person, and amusingly charge a penalty if you stay alone!  Hotels in England are a  rip off period, and in London forget it.  You are going to have to spend a bunch of money, just accept that.

  6. it actyually depends but its mostly around that price

  7. My personal recommendation :

Nice staff, decently sized rooms, good continental breakfast selection (the perpetually picky SO thought it good). Location is fantastic, too. It's a short walk from the Gloucester Road station which three underground lines run through (Circle, District and Piccadilly).

I've always been pleased when staying there.
