My son has a homework assignment to list examples of vertebrates, invertebrates, and arthropods. I thought invertebrates and arthropods were the same thing.

  1. All arthropods are invertebrates but not all invertebrates are arthropods.

Arthropods are organisms from the phylum arthropoda.

Arthropoda is the largest phylum in the animal kingdom. It includes insects, crustaceans, arachnids, and myriapods, and is characterized by a chitinous exoskeleton and a segmented body.

Invertebrata is any organism which does not possess a vertebrae column. Although arthropods fall under this category, they are not the only ones.

There are other phylums under the kingdom animalia, other than arthropoda, which fall under this catagory; these include: Porifera (sponges), Cnidaria (sea anemones, corals, jellyfish), Platyhelminthes (flat worms), Annelida (round worms), and Echinodermata (starfish).

The remaining phylum is chordata which comprises organisms which ave a vertebrae column.

    Hope this helps

  2. No. All arthropods are invertebrates, but worms, molluscs, and sponges are among major groups that are invertebrates but not arthropods.

  3. NO.

Of the million or more animal species in the world, more than 98% are invertebrates. Invertebrates don't have an internal skeleton made of bone. Many invertebrates have a fluid-filled, hydrostatic skeleton, like the jelly fish or worm. Others have a hard outer shell, like insects and crustaceans. There are many types of invertebrates. The most common invertebrates include the protozoa, annelids, echinoderms, mollusks and arthropods. Arthropods include insects, crustaceans and arachnids.
