  2. ok for starters the first 2 people are wrong (but at the same time have some truth in what they say)

Almost all newts have toxins (this is different to venom or poisons) most only make them taste bad or will sting if u get it in your eye or a cut (very few newts or salamanders can "squirt" there toxins at u) some are quite harmful but these species dont tend to end up in the pet trade

really u should wash your hands when before and after doing any amphibian related activity so whateva u get your gonna need to wash your hands

remember no frogs toads newts or salamanders should be handled unless absolutely necessary due to the salts and chemical on your hands and in your skin being absorbed through the phibs skin and this can seriously harm your frog maybe even kill it (washing your hands careful then handling with wet hand for only as few seconds is the only safeish way)

In conclusion almost all newts are fine and those that arent u probably wont even be able to find in the pet trade. just dont put any pet newt in your eye or mouth and im sure you'll be fine lol

feel free to email me with your choice and i can give u some info

  3. they are not poisonous no newt is poisonous. fire-bellied are the most plentiful newt around so it shouldn't be hard to find one. but do wash your hand after you handle because they secrete saliva from their body to protect them from bacteria.

  4. most newts are poisonous! They have a type of venom gland on either side of their head. they will not bite you, and the toxins they do release can't do much harm to humans. at the most, you'll have mild skin irritation. Japanese fire bellies are a great variety, as they are hardy and easy to care for. I don't know for sure which varieties are non-toxic, but the ones to avoid are from western North America. Avoid the rough-skinned newt, as it has enough toxins to kill an adult human!

The toxins only cause harm if they are released into a wound. Do not handle them more than necessary, since they have such delicate skin. In fact, you need to wash your hands before handling the newt, since the oils on your hand can damage their skin. To wash your hands after handling (which should only be done when absolutely necessary; dont let the skin dry out!) just use a simple hand sanitizer until you can get to a sink, where you can use soap and water. You dont need to obsess over washing them. You'll be fine! =]
