  1. I read once that the most distant relation between any two humans is 50th cousins.

  2. It is very likely that all modern humans descended from a single population about 50,000 years ago.    If you figure that we all came from the same population 50,000 years ago, that is about 2,000 generations.  You have two parents, 4 grand parents 8 great grand parents and so on.  After 2,000 generations you would have 2 raised to the 2000 power which is a number with hundreds of digits.  Obviously that is astronomically higher than the population so pretty much everyone that contributed to our gene pool is an ancestor as long as that population wasn't genetically isolated.

  3. Yeah, all of the races are distantly related.

According to current research and theory, all human races and humans today descend from a group of Africans who lived about 50-60,000 years ago.  This group of people was completely modern both in their body and mind.  They spoke a language, practiced a religion, and had a level of intelligence that was on par with modern humans.  If they traveled forward in time to the year 2008, and put on a T-shirt and jeans, they would look almost exactly like a human being today.

This group of Africans left Africa for whatever reason around 50,000 years ago.  They migrated first to the Middle East and Australia, and then Europe and Central/East Asia.  The last continents to be populated by humans were the Americas.  They had spread over much of the world.

People living in Europe lived in a different environment than those living in Africa, Asia, and so on.  Because of these different environments, people adapted to their respective locale.  Africans benefited from their dark skin because they were subject to the harsh sunlight - light skin would have caused skin cancer.  Farther North in Europe and East Asia, dark skin wouldn't be that much of an advantage.  So lighter skin had an opportunity to evolve.

The differences between different races are insignificant when compared to the similarities.  All of us living today originate from a population that lived in Africa "only" 50-60,000 years ago, and we are all members of the species Homo sapiens.

  4. We are informed by the powers that be, that all forms of life are related, and that we all stem from the first life form. I take it with salt.

  5. From what I've read, yes. They did a gene study a couple of years ago that concluded that every single person on the earth could be traced back to one of seven mothers. That, and they recently found that all people with blue eyes share the same genetic mutation...which means that we're all related.

  6. All people of all races are related. They come from the same two people. Adam and Eve. If you disregard the Bible, science will show you that there is one color of skin, different people's skin is a shade of that color. :)

  7. recently in the news was a story claiming that all people with blue eyes had one common ancestor, who was blue eyed because of a mutation. I myself then, must have mutant blood, Where's professor x?
