And is it vital that the people are always critically, politically, engaged? And what does that say for people who, mistrusting Government, fail to even vote?

  1. People in power, or those that get to a position of powers, most likely in the beginning were of true ideas, however, once in power, they see how easy it is to get by with things, the abuse of power how it is accepted and the people, THE PEOPLE themselves are mass orientated and will follow that which they are lead to believe.  This is why we see the media actually turning the voting, the mobs into mobs, and rulers closing down newspapers, magazines, and TV and radios, to silence or influnce  the masses in any given direction.  Look at Niki, prefect example of mass media driving people to a product that they really dont need.

Power certainly seems to hold the candle to corruption and the absolute nature of man.  People who are in power will do and say anything to retain that power, including as we have seen countries today, mass slaughter of those that will not do as those in power want, or to slaughter those that or innocent to control the whole.

Voting, I agree with your first answer to this question.  In this country it is your right NOT to vote, but it is NOT your right then to dictate how the government will govern those that did.  Keep your mouth shut and behave!.   Sorry, I really have feelings about people that do not vote but stand up and want, want, want a change or what ever, they are usually those with their hands out for more and more at the expensive of those that work so hard to give.

  2. Anyone with powre is a threat.  Put in government they have the checks and blances into place for a reason.  All one has to do is look back into history 40 years to see the minority set on issues have won out in court.  Prayer in school, abortions, and thel ist goes on.  People who fail to vote during the elections is their choice although then they should not be given the right ot complain about the government.

  3. No, because it depends upon how their use their power, for or against the people!

  4. "Are all people with power a potential threat to the people?" - Yes, they all have the potential.

"And is it vital that the people are always critically, politically, engaged?" - The architects and signers of the Declaration and the Constitution would likely say so.  I would agree with them.  Apathy accomplishes nothing but allowance of those in power seeking more to retain unjustly and abuse that power.

"And what does that say for people who, mistrusting Government, fail to even vote?" - I don't know what that says about them but maybe they could consider the implications of their inaction: "As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness." - Justice William O. Douglas

or more simply: "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government." I believe that's Abbey.

  5. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" do not know who said it.

But I suppose it is only people with more than a divine spark within them learn to control power and use it for good. They are not a rarity, but in every society, culture, age and race you do find them: they are called saints.

  6. No.

    Don't think so.

    Only to themselves.

    With time.

Getting themselves run out of town.

In running and hanging on the their crown of thorns as the man who would be king.

Getting kick on the butts by little children in time

In short-changing, conning and deceving them in broad daylights with their self lack of knowledge..
