  1. No.  Ever living that damages food could be considered as pest. e.g. insect, weed, ants, bacteria, fungi, soft bodied insects, catterpillers, rat,  etc.

  2. A pest is an organism which has characteristics that are regarded by humans as injurious or unwanted. This is most often because it causes damage to agriculture through feeding on crops or parasitising livestock, such as codling moth on apples, or boll weevil on cotton. An animal can also be a pest when it causes damage to a wild ecosystem or carries germs within human habitats. Examples of these include those organisms which vector human disease, such as rats and fleas which carry the plague disease, or mosquitoes which vector malaria.

The term pest may be used to refer specifically to harmful animals but is also often taken to mean all harmful organisms including fungi and viruses. Pesticides are chemicals that are used to control or protect other organisms from pests.

This just prove that not all pests are insects. As long as it can harm us (especially our agriculture) it is referred as pests. Considering this, not all insects is,as well, pests.=)

  3. If you have a younger brother or sister then you already understand the answer is No.  Pests, in an agricultural sense, are plants, animals and diseases which interfere with agricultural production, storage, transportation and/or utilization.  Consequently pests are not just insects.

  4. All pests are not insects and all insects are not pests. In agriculture the main pests are weeds, insects and mites, nematodes, diseases, and vertebrate pests (which can include everything from mice, rats, moles, and gophers, to a herd of cows getting into your corn field).

  5. No, my stupid groundhog is a pest, those rabbitts are pests, The herd of deer are pests, my sister in law is a serious pest, but I can't shoot her.
