  2. Yes. At the very first appointment.

In most cases it is optional but yes it is more common now to have the testing done and is offered at the beginning with the regular blood testing now.  I went to a private Dr with my first pregnancy so it was optional, with my second pregnancy i went through a government funded clinic and it wasn't optional but this time I went through again a private Dr so it was optional.  Really there is no reason not to do it and I know here you have to sign a permission paper to have it done.  

  4. Actually you have to sign the paper giving them the consent to test you for HIV, and I suggest you do :) It was at my very first prenatal appointment. But they offer the test to EVERYONE.

  6. They are usually tested for HIV as well as a bunch of other stuff at their first pre-natal visit.

  7. Yep, everytime you go for a bloodtest- for me its about once a month. But i'm not sure if thats for a HIV.  

    I know i got tested at the begining of my pregnancy for EVERYTHING and i'd assume they'd test at the end as well.

  8. It is recommended but not required. I didn't have an HIV test with my first son because it wasn't covered by our insurance.

  12. When I had my son they did the hiv test right when they drew blood for other routine stuff, but I had to sign to consent to an hiv test...


  13. Yes they are.  Once early in your pregnancy and again at around 34 weeks.
