  1. normally yes,  in the 2nd rocky movie they were training him to be a righty,

but southpaw refers to left arms,  (pitchers, fighters)

so if a pitcher was a southpaw throwing with his right hand, its conflicting,  i am not sure if you are trying for some tactical positioning purpose, but i wouldn't advise trying to fight southpaw with a right power hand, but ifyou are punching with your weak hand in the power spot, well......  good luck

  2. no

  3. Not necessarily, I am right handed, but I'm a southy.  When southy, your left hand is your power hand.

Joe E, your an idiot, I am southpaw, but I am right handed. You can't tell em what i aam and what im not.

  4. no south paw refers to your stance left handed people us a south paw stance because that is what is natural but a right handed person can train in a south paw stance to throw off an opponent your power hand should still be just as dangerous from the south paw stance but it may take some practice

  5. Folks - south paw is a BASEBALL term, so you can't change the meaning of it just to fit it into boxing.  "South Paw" refers to a left handed pitcher, in reference to the arm that was traditionally on the south side of the mound.  It has nothing to do with your stance, though we have taken it to mean someone who stands with their right foot forward instead of thier left.

That being said, all south paws are left handed fighters.  That does not mean that is their power hand.  It just means that they use their right hand for the jab and left hand for the cross.

It has nothing to do with how you write (i.e. just because you write with your right hand does not mean you are a right-handed fighter).  It has everything to do with how you throw (be it baseballs or fists).

  6. A long time ago, I heard that the term "southpaw" comes from a boxing event in NJ many years ago.

The boxer's body position had his chest facing south, as was his opponent.

His opponent was right handed and he was a lefty.

I keep seeing it's related to baseball.

    But yes, Southpaw is left-handedness.

  7. I'm left handed, and I prefer a southpaw stance, although during sparring I like to switch between normal and southpaw frequently. I train both sides of my body equally, so I wouldn't say that my left hook is stronger than my right, although I still prefer to punch with my left.

Some right handed people might feel more comfortable in a southpaw stance, as could some ambidextrous people. It's just a matter of personal preference.

  8. yes it does those how say its not are stupid and dont know what they are talking about.

  9. Nope...

Especially when you consider ambidextrous people who use the left hand as a matter of personal preference rather than necessity.

  10. I'm a right-handed southpaw.  I get a certain amount of resistance from people who tell me I should use the orthodox  stance (keeping the right hand back for a power punch), but for me it's just a personal preference.  I like having the strong jab.  I can switch back to orthodox if I want or need to, but at this point it feels more natural.

  11. naw. some just prefer to fight at a south paw stance.

  12. south paw is another way to say lefty and no it doesnt have to be your stronger arm but most of the time it is because thats the hand you use more but boxers train too use each equally but if your fighting a south paw look out for the left hook
