Are all the DV camcorders on the market able to load its videos onto the computer?

  1. the international standard for miniDV requires that its camcorders have the ieee1394 firewire connection. if you don't have miniDV, then no, it could have any or no computer connection. and no computer is required to have external ports of any kind, including firewire.  I think any camcorder is capable of AV analog output, and any computer can be retro-fitted with analog video capture cards.


  2. Yes - you'll need to capture the video via firewire rather than USB - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

    You don't need conversion software but you will need a capture app and preferably something to edit your video - you can start with Windows Movie Maker, which should already be on your PC (or iMovie if you've got a Mac).

  3. Yes, you have the conversion software!! If you have the CD provided with camcorder then you should be good!!
