Are all the mice gone?

So, I sort of have a unique situation (because I have a defined time line). About a week and a half ago, I did some major cleaning. I cleaned out closets, organized cabinets, did major laundry, washing all bed sheets, blankets, pillows, etc. There were no signs of mice at all. I never saw a single mouse p**p. Then on Wednesday, I was packing my diaper bag for my 11 month old and there I found a bag of cheese crackers chewed into. I went into panic mode. I started looking in the closet where the diaper bag was and there was more mouse p**p. Then I looked under my kitchen cabinets...more mouse p**p. And then there was p**p in my kids closets and in our bedroom. I instantly went into WAR mode. I got some steel wool and expandable foam and sealed every hole around the plumbing and heating. I disinfected countertops, floors, and any place I saw p**p. Then I went outside and did the same thing with holes and pipes coming into the house. That night I set up traps baited with chocolate. Before we even got the lights out to go to bed, we caught one. No more in any of the traps that night. The next night, we bought even more traps. But never caught anything. I saw a mouse t**d here, and one there, but I'm not sure if they were ones I missed from the major clean-up I did. Was it possible that we only had one roaming for a week on all levels of our home? How do you really know they're gone?

  1. You don't know for certain, but it's quite possible you only had one. Keep the traps going for a week or so to be sure.

You don't mention if you live in the town or country - if it's the country it's almost certainly a once-off at this time of year.

  2. unless that was a breeding female that should be it, unlike rats they are solitary
