  1. If you mean THE Smart built by Merc, it's quite advanced in terms of engineering and safety. They're quite popular in Europe and no, they're not death traps. Few get involved in major traffic accidents and they offer adequate protection to occupants, tests confirm. Sure, they might have a problem in a head-on collision with a SUV or a truck, but even normal cars don't do much better.

People use them mainly in cities and occasionally on expressways, they can keep the pace quite well.

Smarts are small, have great fuel economy but are far from being cheap. There are several gas and diesel versions; a four seater was abandoned on commercial grounds (tough competition).

  2. SMARTS CARS ARE DEATH TRAPS.. THE ROOF JUST ISNT RIGHT.. THE STYLING ISNT BAD.. BUT ...

  3. Ive seen so many demonstrations of the SMART CAR crashes LOOK AT THIS LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju6t-yyoU...

  4. SMART CARS HAVE NO CRUMPLE ZONE

Smart cars have amazing roll cages and protection equipment, but you wouldn't survive an average collision in one.

People who buy one are either gullible or insanely fashion concious (the latter tends ot be a symptom of the former).

  5. Yes, they are death traps if you drive them on freeways. When I was a security guard at a local college (ca. 2003), Ford gave us some smart cars for patrolling the campus; we didn't call them smart cars.

Smart cars are for those who wanna waste money, or whose needs are minimal: buying groceries, driving 5 miles in a town.

  6. A smart car has a cage around the passenger compartment that is rigid.  It has more strength and protection than an F-150 truck, or the similar Expedition.

The Smart car has passed European, Canadian, and American safety standards.
