Question:

Are all these protections required?

I currently have Threatfire, Spyware Terminator, AVAST 4.8 antivirus, SUPERAntiSpyware, AVG antispyware and ad-aware. I previously used AVG 7.5 but after I upgraded it to 8, I felt that I don't need some of the features so I opted for AVAST, which I used before. Now, I have a feeling that AVAST is really slowing my PC and internet speed. Can you guys recommend me some good antivirus that is light on usage. Or can I just uninstall some of the programs as mentioned before?

  1. get rid of spyware terminator

  2. It not Avast slowing you down, Spyware Terminator will slow you down.

    Delete:

    Spyware Terminator

    ad-aware

& Make sure your not running AVG antivirus for you have no need for it.

  3. I don't think you will need all these antivirus softwares because it's jsut going to slow down your computer.

Choose the best one, or your favorite one. Maybe you can have your 2 favorite ones if you don't know which to choose. But all those, it's definately gonna lag your computer.

  4. I would not recommend using more than one resident protection program at a time. Of the bunch you mentioned, I personally like Avast for resident protection. I use Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy for periodic manual scanning, but you can use the tools you like.

Having a large number of scanning programs won't slow your computer down. What will bog it down, though, are programs the provide resident protection. Ad-Aware does by default, but you can turn it off.

If you have one resident protection program that protects against spyware and viruses, and can handle files, email, browsing, and general network traffic, that's probably your best choice. This way, all your protections will share one scan engine, saving resources.

Avast will do this, and I've had very good luck with it.
