I have a pet toad that i've been keeping in quite a large hole i dug for a few weeks now, and i recently heard that there are many toads that are poisonous (not in an extreme way, but there are). I live in British columbia, which is where i found my toad. It doesn't look unordinary at all, and its body is just smaller than the palm of my hand. How can i tell what type of toad it is, and whether or not it is poisonous?

  1. No not all toads are poisonous

  2. No, not all toads are poisonous.

  3. No, not all toads are poisonous. A good way to learn more about your toad is to check out books on the library/internet research/etc.

  4. "Toad" is applied to a number of anurans. The one you have is not venomous but it is poisonous. You weren't planning on eating or l*****g it, were you?

  5. no they are not all poisonous.  just check the internet/books for toads.  see if you can find the pic of yours or even bring it to a vet and see if they can help you

  6. Nope, not at all. A few are, but most are just harmless (harmless meaning shy to peeing on your hand for defense). Dont worry!

  7. You have a Western toad (Bufo boreas). They are mildly toxic, but pose no threat (unless you try to eat it).

You should not be keeping it in a hole in the ground. I recommend that you read some books on basic amphibian care. If you are unwilling to do that, you should release it where you found it, before it dies.

  8. If A Toad Is Brightly Colored You Should Not Keep It Toads Are Not Usually Poisonous To Humans Unless Swallowed Or If You Would l**k It. A Way To Find Out If The Toad You Have Is Poisonous Ask A Local Life Science Teacher Or A Wildlife Officer.

  9. All toads secrete toxins from their skin. The large bumps just beyond the eyes are the glands where it is produced. The common toad's poison is very mild. Once I forgot to wash my hands after handling one and itched my face. All this caused was a slight irritation.

If you let that toad go, you could read up a bit more on the subject and maybe get one from the pet store.
