Are all tuba players big heavy people?

i would like to play the tuba..the only pronlem is that im not like those big heavy people..im a tall skinny person

  1. no I'm a tuba player and im skinny and so are all the rest of the tuba players in my band


  2. No but you have to be preety strong to hold up that. Go for it i think you should give it a shot. You might do good.

  4. nope. my bro is skinny. he plays tuba, trombone, baritone, saxaphone, french horn, trumpet, and now he's learning a little guitar. four of these instruments i noticed the players are usually on the heavy side. i see where ur coming from.

  5. Tuba does not mean you are big, it depends on your embouchure (the shape of your mouth.) Most of the tuba section in my band are girls, myself one of them. None of us are very big!

  6. I know a guy that is about 5 foot and absolutely skinny as a rail and he is still able to do all the twisty turny stuff they do during songs at the top of the stands with the best balance.

    a tuba player in my band was really short

    he wasn't skinny or fat i guess he was just average

    he practiced a lot and he got pretty good at tuba:)

  10. there are 3 girls that play sousaphones in our marching band.

    and they are quite small.

NO  NO  NO <  my littlest one, was the tuba player in the band, and ended up being drum major,   It is a girl, she is 5 7  and she wears a size 3  in jeans,  LOL  so no, they do not have to be big goofy guys,  you can carry it,  it weights about 17 pounds i think she said,   and she had a pad for her shoulder, and she did get to use the light one for parades, and i got her a plastic mouthpiece for parades, so the metal one did not stick to her lips,   LOL  enjoy the tuba,  and dont forget to find the local,  ** tuba christmas** when you play,  they have them all around the country, you will love it,  the ones we always went to , had over 100 tubas,.    LOL  it was crazy,   good luck

  12. sousaphone and tuba are NOT the same thing..

    the tuba players in our hs marching band are not big.. but very muscular.. especially the shoulders and arms

    I know this girl who plays/ed the tuba.

    She was a small, skinny person.

    In the marching band, we have these two guys.

    One's really tall and skinnier than a toothpick.

    Another's short.  I think the tuba's taller than him actually.

    Kidding.  But it's close.
