Okay im 25 weeks (6 months) pregnant and at my 2nd ultrasound they tell me my baby stomach looks little so they schedule me for another ultrasound to make sure. this would make my third ultrasound and they do say that the baby tummy is slightly small so every time i see my regular docter i have to have a ultrasound that same day and another day on the same week. They tell me its okay to have these many ultra sounds, but what is ur opinion about that many ultrasounds??

  1. http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2004/10...

When medically necessary, the benefit outweighs any potential risk. There have been lab studies that have shown physical effects on tissue from ultrasounds, but there has been no studies that have concluded that a fetus is at risk of harm.

In other words, if you medically need one, you should get one. If you don't have a medical need for one, don't get one.

  2. I had about 7 sono's with my first pregnancy and my daughter is just perfect. I have had 2 this pregnancy at 17 weeks. I think it is fine.

  3. I had SIX ultrasounds with my last pregnancy (good thing I have good insurance) and my son is just fine.

  4. I don't know of any risks of having a lot of ultrasounds. Typically, they only do this if they think there is a problem. Which, in your case, they feel that the baby's stomach is too small. Even if there were possible complications in getting so many ultrasounds, consider the alternative... If there IS in fact a major problem with the baby, you need to know so it can be treated right away. Without the ultrasounds, it could go unnoticed/unfixed and cause other complications or worse...

  5. I would only get them when necessary, not for "pictures" like so many people are doing these days.  It can't be good for baby, but I don't know if there is any research with "proof" that it is harmful.

  6. Why do you think the opinion of a bunch of random untrained strangers on the internet is worth more than years of medical research?

Ultrasound scans are perfectly safe. Though I believe there is a very tiny correlation with being left-handed :)

  7. Yes it's fine. The images are made with sound waves that bounce off whatever the ultrasound (hence the word sound) is looking for, and the sound waves reflect the image back.

    It's not like an x-ray.
