Since we are running out of gasoline for cars, how else can we run them, and to get a car that runs off of

alternative fuels, how much can you expect to pay as of today? Are these types of cars becoming increasingly more and more affordable?

  1. not really and besides e 85 ethanol isn't working out as well  as some hoped and electric cars or hybrids  are fetching higher prices than when they first came out i worked at a dealership when the prius first came out it was like around 12,000 but now because of supply and demand you can't touch one for under 17,000

  2. My parents heat their home with biodiesel.  It was more expensive than oil when they started - now it's cheaper.  That's not because the cost of biodiesel has gone down, but because the cost of oil has gone up.  So yes, biodiesel is somewhat becoming more affordable in some areas, but it's all relative.

It's the same with natural gas, at least where I live.  There is a natural gas station in our city, and the prices are just the same as gasoline.

  3. Yes.  Currently the only highway speed electric car available is the Tesla Roadster for nearly $100,000, but that's going to change soon.

Available in California in October 2008, the Aptera typ-1e will cost about $27,000 with a top speed of 95 mph and range of 120 miles per charge.

Soon thereafter Aptera will introduce the typ-1h, a plug-in hybrid version of the typ-1e with a 40-60 mile range on purely electrical energy, and a range of over 600 miles total when in electric/gas hybrid mode, for around $30,000.  On a 120 mile trip, the typ-1h will get 300 miles per gallon.  The shorter the trip, the higher the efficiency.
