Are aluminum tumblers from the 50's dishwasher safe? Are any of the newer ones? ?

Or are they all hand wash only?

  1. Never ever put aluminium in the dishwasher.  It will stain it (something in the dishwasher powder).  I agree with the comment too about using aluminium not being a good idea.  That is why it is not used today for utensils.


  2. They will oxidize with the caustic chlorine based detergent.  Sorry, anodized aluminum cups are to be hand washed.    I wouldn't use them at all.   They increase aluminum ion consumption.  Aluminum is found to contribute to Alzheimer's disease.

  3. It depends.  Do you have soft water?  If not, then you're going to get lime buildup on the tumblers.  I would think that the newer ones are the same.  They may have a newer finish to protect them, but even that will wear away.
