Are animals better off in the zoo or in their natural habitats?

Animals are way better off in their natural habitat then in zoos, now humans are destroying everything we have to try and deal with it. I don't go to zoos, only wildlife parks and santuaries. Zoos take animals out of the wild by capturing them and taking them away from what they do. wildlife parks and sancuarys take animals that zoos can no longer cope with or animals that were kept as pets by stupid people and when they grew up the people couldn't deal with them and they were too socialised to go back into the wild. So I would avoid zoos, especially ones which keep the animals in tiny cages.

They are deffinetly better off in their natural habitat if the zoo is pathetic.

but if the cages provide artificial compensators and hourly checks on the animals they are better off in the zoo bacause of all the poaching. but in that case the best thing is a wildlife preserve don you think?

First off I would like to say that what rabbit encyclopedia said was entirely not true.   The animals that are in zoos are animals that have been bred in captivity or were in a place where they could have been killed or seriously injured.  I know this because I work at a zoo.  Granted that is the way it used to be but not any more.  Now the zoos are trying to raise money to help keep the ones that are wild in the wild.  Very few animals in zoos are wild caught anymore.  But in answer to your question I would have to say it depends on the species of animal and what shape its natural habitat is in.  Some animals no longer exist in the wild for many reasons and not just human caused ones.

very hard question! ideally natural habitats but if there just goign to die from lack of habitat, hunting etc then zoo where they can be looked after and bred so long as the enclosure is big enough and they have all the five freedoms zoos do fantastic work.
