  1. Yes. As everyone has said ground up animal bones- but also beware of gummy candies too- like gummy bears, worms, skittles, starburst...

  2. Gelatin comes from animal bones.  When the animals are killed for some other reason, they use the bones to make gelatin.

And when you put it that way, it sounds worse than hot dogs.  Blech.

  3. Gelatin is from the bones, connective tissues, and hides of slaughtered animals.  It's what's called a slaughterhouse byproduct.  So while the animal isn't killed for the gelatin--s/he's killed for his/her flesh to become meat--it's certainly not vegetarian.

Read labels to ensure the food you eat doesn't have gelatin.

  4. They are already butchered and gelatin is made later.

  5. It's made from bones mostly. Yes, and ewwww that is icky stuff. Try AgarAgar instead.

  6. I believe gelatin is made from the "scraps" so the animal is already dead from a previous process.

  7. Yes, gelatin is made from boiling animal hides, bones and connective tissues.  You can't remove an animal's bones, skin and connective tissue without killing it.  Gelatin is a slaughter byproduct and is not a vegetarian food.  Yes, the animal is "already dead" because of the demand for meat, but slaughter byproducts are a significant source of profit for the livestock industry.

  8. Gelatin is a by product of slaughter...so yes, an animal has to be killed to make gelatin.

  9. It's from bones and the animal fat that's how it solidifies.

  10. no more ice cream or yogurt for you.

yes,  animals die not just for jello... they die for additives and preservatives...

    all processed foods have it.

time to go fresh produce dear.

that's it...     you'll be surprised to find out what  you can't eat.

    that includes ingestion of vitamins!

  11. yes in order to make gelatin you need a dead animal.... it's parts of the inside of the animal.... it's a byproduct of them being killed for meat...

  12. Gelatin comes from boiling the bones, skin, and hooves of animals, so yes, they do kill the animal. (If they didn't, I would object even more to gelatin.)

  13. Gelatin always comes from dead animals.

They are not killed for the gelatin but it is not vegetarian.

Gelatin is collected by making a soup of the skin, bones, cartilage, tendons and other leftovers. Then they scoop the good stuff off the top and refine/separate it into different substances, gelatin is just one of them.

  14. It really depends how you look at it.

Gelatin is one of the many things derived from animals when they are killed. The most common thing we take from them is the meat, but there are also other "valuable" things in animals that we eat. Gelatin is not the main reason for killing an animal, but we do "benefit" from the scraps.

Gelatin is extracted from bones, organs, connective tissues, pigskin, and some intestines of mostly cattle and horses.

In my opinion, animals ARE killed to produce gelatinous products.

  15. I hope so since gelatin is made by boiling down their hoofs. :-(

Vegetarians can eat ice cream and yogurt, but check first to make sure no gelatin is in it.

  16. I think the animals are already dead. They grind their bones to make the gelatin..ew

  17. Technically the animal is killed for the meat. Then the bones and connective tissues are used to make gelatin. So it all depends on your point of view. You can say the animal is dead, so it's unacceptable. Or you can say the animal was already dead, they just used the left over material to make gelatin.

You personal diet choices are your own. If you don't want to give up something, you're not obliged to.

  18. Yes..it comes from bone and tissue.  There are many yogurts and ice creams with no gelatin

  19. Well, it comes from the bones of animals.

Obviously they're dead when the gelatin making process begins..

But I think I get what you're saying, that are there animals killed solely for gelatin making and nothing else..?

And the answer is maybe. They might use the bones of animals already killed for meat, but sometimes you never know with the meat industry.

  20. The animals are already dead. Gelatin is ground up animal bones. So essentially, yes.
