Are ankle weights bad?!!? plz be serious!?

Ok so i heard people sad they s***w up your knees

but others say they work really good and make u faster

which one is it!

if u have them and used them then tell me if it helped u or made you slower

Yes they are bad.  You have already thousands of pounds of hard impacting pounding force delivered to your ankles, and knees when running.  The majority of people who run for exercise do not have the right shoes for it tailored to their running type.  The end result is you can do some serious damage because of the additional weight, andreally hurt yourself. If you want to use the ankle weights you are needing to look at a machine like an elliptical so there is no impact that can cause damage but you still ahve to work with the extra weight to gain a benefit.

Like most equipment out there (i.e. parachutes, running vests, ladders, etc), there are some really great training techniques that you can do.  In this case, running and jumping with ankle weights can stretch and weaken joints, ligaments, etc.  I went to a local sports store and saw 20lb ankle weights.  This is getting to an absurb amount of weight.

    Things that you can do.  You can basically do any time of in place drills - abduction/adduction (supine, prone, etc), supermans (this one use cautiously), quadraped series, etc.  Anything that requires power (including walking) I would not recommend.  These exercises will help you get faster and putting a bit of pressure may be beneficial.  Also you can do ankle strengthening exercises too.

  5. They are very bad for you. Never wear ankle weights while running.

    You might use them for exercises, that is, standing and moving your legs, but not for jumping or running.

    They are not going to improve your performance, but they have a very good chance of injuring you.

  6. Yepp if u do it then soon it can get so worse I will b painful to go up stairs and u won't b able to run any more that wat happened to my mom but ot b cause of ankle weights

  7. I've always wanted to try them but I was warned that they put extra pressure on your joints and this in turn ages your joints.

    Are you in good health?  Do you want them to increase muscle or to lose weight?  Light weights will make you work a little bit harder and burn calories

In addition to the possibility of injury with ankle weights while running the main reason not to use them is that they will make you run slower than top speed sprints and they are too light compared to heavy weight lifting. Ditch the ankle weights, get in the weight room and run short top speed sprints.  

  9. dont use them they can jack up your knees really bad. I have never used them because of this. It probly wont jack up your knees at first but then one day your knees will be c**p from doing it so much.
