Question:

Are antibiotics always prescribed after wisdom teeth extraction?

I cannot take antibiotics and I am having all 4 wisdom teeth taken out. They are above the gum, I can see all of the tooth. They look like the teeth in front of them. The dentist did say they were partially impacted under bone (I don't understand how since I can see them and plan to ask the oral surgeon about this).

I absolutely will not take antibiotics and have an excellent immune system (I've had dog bites, sinus infections, puncture wounds, etc. didn't take them and didn't have any problems).

I am on birth control pills for migraines. If I take an antibiotic I will get my period, a migraine, and a yeast infection all at the same time (while trying to recover from wisdom teeth extraction).

I've already looked into herbal remedies as alternatives to antibiotics just in case the surgeon wants to prescribe them.

Are they always prescribed for wisdom tooth extraction?

  1. This is something you have to discuss with the doctor removing the teeth.

  2. no they aren't always prescribed, just make sure you are very good at rinsing the areas that the teeth are taken out with saltwater 3 times a day to help kill any bacteria in the area and you shouldn't need to tkae any antibiotics
