Question:

Are any Ephedra Products (with root, not leaf extract) still available?

Before all of the banning involved with Ephedra, they used to get Ephedra extract from the root of the plant where it was much stronger than the leaves... My understanding of the latest ruling is companies can make ephedra products again, however they can only use the leaves (which are much weaker) than the roots... so 25mg of Ephedra from leaves is way less potent than 25mg of Ephedra from roots....

So my question is, are there any products still available that have 25mg of Ephedra from roots?... like from Canada / China or where ever?

It amazes me how they can put any kind of ban on Ephedra which probably caused a few hundred deaths over the lifetime of the product because some people who shouldn't have taken it in the first place took too much... yet smoking kills 2.5 million per year and they haven't baned tobacco... our government is really messed up in priorities... yea tobacco lobby

  1. I totally agree with you about the ridiculous banning of ephedra. I used it regularly, too. If the active ingredient could have been isolated, you can bet it would have ended up as a pharmaceutical.

As for legal sources, it'll be awhile before companies start to make it again--it is still illegal to sell in the US. I've been waiting, too. There is no legitimate company making a quality product at this time. There used to be old stock of the original ephedra products around, but they've all sold out a few years ago.

Yay to the government on this!

RE: That's not why ephedra products are being banned. They are being banned because ephedra is used in the production of methamphetamine--

Do you have any source/reference for this statement? I have never heard this before. Pseudoephedrine is used to make meth, but I've never heard that ephedra is used to make it.
