  1. yes they are

  2. Yes to both....i agree with the first answer

  3. Yes and yes.  Eels are fairly closely related to Knifefish while rays are very closely related to sharks.

  4. Yes. Unlike mammals and reptiles, fishes don't all fall under a specific group. Generally speaking, fish are vertebrates that possess scales and have at least 2 sets of paired fins.

Eels and stingrays, like most (but not all fish) also have the following traits; I've listed exceptions in parentheses:

-Have gills (corydora catfish absorb oxygen through their stomach lining, and some gouramis have a labyrinth organ, which is different)

-Are cold-blooded (some tuna and swordfish species can regulate their body temperature)

-Spend most of their life in water (mudskippers spend most of their life in mudflats, relying on mud to keep them wet).

Eels are included under the ray-finned fish class, actinopterygii. Depending on the specific species of eel, they fall under one of three orders within this class.

Rays, along with sharks, skates, and chimerae, are in the Chondrichthyes class, or the cartaliginous fishes.
