    not even close.

    they are both mammals but that is about it. Armadillos are a member of the group Xenartha which also include sloths anteaters and extinct critters like giant sloths and glyptodonts.This is entirely native to the Americas.

    Possums are marsupials, which are mammals that carry their young in pouches. Most marsupials are native to Australia, New Guinea and parts of Indonesia, but several species of opossums are native to the Americas, only one of which lives in much of the US and parts of southernmost Canada.

    Also, eating armadillos is a bad idea as they carry leprosy, possums on the other hand are supposed to be quite tasty, once you get past the idea that you are eating something that likes to eat garbage.

    Armadillos are Placental mammals and Possums are Marsupials.
