Question:

Are baby boys really bigger than baby girls?

I was told by quite a few people that baby boys are generally bigger than baby girls. How much truth is in that? My aunt's son who is 7 months is at least a head taller than my husband's cousin's daughter who is 8 months. Does gender really play a role in how tall a baby can get?

  1. i dont think, i believe it has to do with hereditary ,my son was smaller than my daughter, however she was lengthier than he was.  plus as he or she gets bigger you can see how they measure up to other kids. my son is 8 and there is a 5yr old who is a head taller than he is.

  2. Yes, women are generally smaller than men and the same applies to babies.

  3. Not in our household my son was the lowest birth weight and the shortest of our children, until he hit his teen growth spurt.

  4. not in my family ... depends on the genes of the family... all babies in my family are big... my daughter is 3 months and is the size of a 6-9 month baby

  5. Actually the opposite is quite often true.

  6. Hmm. I've heard that as well, but my daughter was 8lb 3oz and her boy cousin was only 7lbs, but i'm sure it can differ

  7. on average, yes. Male babies average 7.5 lbs at birth, females are closer to 7 lbs. Obviously, if you have 2 small parents then their baby may be smaller than the baby from two tall parents, regardless of gender. But just look around you, and on average men are taller than women, and in sibling groups brothers are taller than sisters.
