Chakras are energy centers that are supposed to be located along your spine--at least the 2nd to 5th ones.

Maybe you're asking if programmers have weak spines because they sit at their computers for long hours--I'm not sure.

Chakras have no physical existence. They are supposedly spiritual centres used in Rajayoga practice. As such there is nothing to link them with any occupation.

Posture is bad with computer programmers, which is why many end up with spine related problems.

Not necessarily so. First of all, the other answerers are incorrect. There are 7 major chakras in the human body and 2nd throught 6th have a frontal projection as well as a back projection.  There are 14-16 chakras altogether. Since there are no English translated scriptures from Hinduism about Chakras, only lineage Gurus/ Saints and Swamis are qualified to discuss and teach about them.

In any case, the frontal chakras generally govern the emotions and the back ones govern will. The Chakras are bioenergetic and exist in a very subtle dimension of life. They do not necessarily have anything to do with the health status of the physical location on that body. So, for example, back pain usually has nothing to do with the Chakras of the back. Much like an acupuncture point usually has absolutely nothing to do with health of the actual physical location it is found at.

Chakras can be more easily understood as psycho-spiritual paradigms or levels, of attainement/ maturation, much like Maslow's Heirachy of Needs. The Chakra System is multidimensional and highly interwoven with the mind-body-spirit of humans, as well as with the various Chakras themselves. The Chakra System is as complex as the anatomy and physiology on the gross physical level of humans, and is just a small part of the entire picture of the anatomy and physiology of the human as a spirit or energy.
