Are bananas vegetables?

i've heard from several people that they are. none of my friends believe me. no mean answers please.

  6. No. Bananas contain the seed of the plant, so they are FRUITS.

    Anything that contains seeds is a fruit by biological definition. Trust me, I'm a botanist. : )

    That means that TECHNICALLY, a tomato, zucchini, avocado, squash, etc. are all fruits.

    Everyday language tends to group them a bit differently, referring to the greener or less sweet ones as veggies and the colored sweet ones as fruits, even though this is incorrect.

    In actuality, a true vegetable is a part of a plant, like Broccoli (it's the flower of the plant), or carrots and potatoes (they are the roots of their plants) or lettuce (the leaves) that does NOT contain any seeds.

    Now go back and tell your friends you know the true definition of a fruit and vegetable, : )
