  1. Yes.  Beach volleyballs have a lower internal pressure than indoor volleyballs allowing for a tad greater control for the passer.  The outside of the ball is made of a softer material than the indoor ball.

    Indoor ball specifications:

"The volleyball is made of leather or synthetic leather and inflated according to FIVB regulations:

            * Its circumference is 65–67 cm and its weight is 260–280 g.

            * Its inside pressure shall be 0.30–0.325 kg/cm2 (4.26–4.61 psi, 294.3–318.82 mbar or hPa)"

    Outdoor specifications:

    66-68 cm (26-27 in) circumference

    260-280 grams (9.2-9.9 oz) mass

    0.175 kg/cm2 -0.225 (2.5-3.2 psi) internal pressure

  2. Yes. I don't know exactly how they differ, but I play indoor volleyball and beach volleyballs hurt my arms.
