  1. usually people with lots of land start training their dogs to come back home, so they can go freely since thier hunting dogs

  2. It all depends. Beagles are very popular as pets, but not a lot of people realize what they're getting into - they're drawn in by the cute little faces and the breed's popularity.

Beagles are very energetic, can be very stubborn, and when they catch a whiff of something - they're off. When the nose turns on, the brain turns off. They're a hound and were bred to chase and hunt small game, so when they catch a scent they'll follow it - if they aren't properly contained in a yard or on a leash, they could find themselves miles from home before you realize that they're gone.

On the other hand, they're very friendly little dogs, and make good family pets when raised properly. They bark like crazy, though - and it's more of a yodel than a bark. If you have cranky neighbors, you'll have to train your beagle not to bark.

    Good luck!

  3. Beagles can make great pets if you have the time/energy for them. They are very active dogs that like to bark. Here is some more detailed information about them: http://www.purebredpups.org/Breed_Info/1...

    Hope this helps!

  4. I agree with the above answer but from a personal view, I notice that since they are a "hound" they have a strong "hound" smell, moreso, I think than other dogs....Might just be me.

  5. Depends on your energy levels. They do need a daily walk of at least an hour, they tend to get along with most dogs. They are escape artists though so if you let them in your back yard (if you have one) it needs to be escape proof. They need a fair bit of mental stimulation as well.

They are very loving, but can be very hard to train as they are ruled by their nose and would prefer to smell things rather than let you train them.

ADD.. when you take them for walks, make sure that they are ALWAYS on a leash. But if they get off. Turn around and walk the other way. Chasing after them doesn't work. Whereas if you have a strong enough bond with the dog, it will turn around and see that you aren't following it, and so they will run back to you (though this won't always work)

  6. They are a wonderful, loyal, breed of hunting dog with a distinctive bark.

Shedding isn't a problem with beagles but they do need long walks, plenty of exercise and careful monitoring of how much food they get. Beagles love their food even more than most dogs do and often tend to eat too much at feeding time if allowed to.
