Are beagles good dogs?

Question

My family is looking for are second dog. Our first is 7 years old and a yorkie,****-zu,cockerspaniel mix. Ive heard from a few people that beagles arent the greatest choice of dog. But were looking for something small nothing bigger then our first dog he is 25 pounds and a about a foot and half. Yet my uncle has a beagle and its a great dog for him. Do you think beagles are a good dog for our familys needs?

I personally are not attracted to this breed because of one main reason,.. THEY BARK!!!!!! It's hard to find a beagle that doesn't bark. and being related to hound they also follow their noses alot, which means they can rarely be trusted off leash unless trained well.

Just my experience. Otherwise generally nice dogs

I have a beagle/pug mix and she is the greatest dog.  She doesn't bark in the house ever, only if we are outside and someone comes near (but its a cute nice bark because she wants them to come play with her!).  I have never seen one bigger than 25 lbs (mine is about 17lbs).  They love to cuddle next to you and sleep alot but also need lots of play time! Good luck with your choice and always remember to go to a shelter first!

Yes beagles are very good dogs. I have a 2 year old miniature 13 inch beagle named Sid Vicious after the band "The s*x Pistols" Which I love. LOL!

You do have to remember that they are hunting dogs and they can be quite LOUD. One other thing is that beagles shed a lot, I have to sweep my floors everyday, if I skip a day then when I do sweep I have enough fur to make another beagle! LOL

Sid is very very smart and knows lots of commands, he goes every where I go, everyone in the neighbor hood loves him to death and all the kids come by to play ball with him. I would defiantly suggest a beagle to any one looking for a small dog.

You should really check out your local animal shelter to see if they have any small dogs or pup's for adoption even if its not a beagle you could save a life!
