I've heard that bicycles are expensive in Australia, is it true? I've looked on eBay and they actually seem cheaper. Especially road/hybrid bikes. I'm moving to Aus in Jan/Feb and would like to know if it's worth the hassle bringing my Norco VFR2.

  1. Norco 2008 VFR 2 - DISC

for  A$974.96  in Victoria at http://www.bikepro.com.au

    How does that compare ?

I paid $75 for a reasonable bike at Kmart for my 12 year old, the bike isn't quite in your league though ;)

  2. Bring it if it won't cost you too much to bring it, lock it like you've never locked anything in your life before once you get here, not many $1,000 bikes around here.  You can get an 18 speed crappy mountain bike from local dept store from $100.  Pull the bike apart and ship the cheapest way you can and park it in the hallway every night, and lock it with two chains when you leave it in a bike rack anywhere.
