  1. They can be fun, but they are very messy, temperamental and LOUD!  Sometimes the noise they make drives you crazy and I only had a Quaker parrot which is rather small for a parrot.  After having one for 15 years (mine had a lung disease and died early, they can live 30 years or so), I would never have another one.  It's always a chore finding someone the bird actually likes to care for it if you want to go away.  They bite very hard and can like you one day and hate you the next.  It's a big commitment having a bird and you have to chop up fresh fruit and veggies for it every day.  If they don't get enough attention they scream.  Ours was a hand fed baby and it still gave us trouble.  To me the fun, wasn't worth all the trouble, and I loved my bird!

  2. Better than an imaginary friend. =)

  3. Parrots can indeed be  a lot of fun: they are smart and can learn a lot of words.  You have to take really good care of them, but if you do, they can live to be very old.  I think you will like one as your pet!!

  4. They are fun at first, but get extreamly old and annoying REAL quick. Don't get on if you like having 5+ hours of sleep.

  5. they're okay just don't wear jewlry the bird will like it and try to rip it off it hurts alot especialy earrings

  6. get a parrot it talkz playz with you and lovez itz owner(z)

  7. yea because they also just dont talk they listen to you they can tell you what you want or just comploment you like if they say "treat"  you know what to give it i reccomend that not to buy a bird because of talking even the best talking bird in the world could not learn to talk even with special training --- good luck!

  8. birds are fun but be prepared to clean ALOT!!! and also to get bitten... and remember once they learn to talk they will never be quiet... these kinda birds are very expensive and require a really big care and lots of care, are u prepared for this?

  9. If you want one that talks you should get a Quaker. They are the best talking small birds out there. I have an African Grey which are the very best talkers but they are a big bird and cost a lot more than a Quaker. I would do some research first.

You can see pictures of my birds at http://myjungle.net

I do have a Peach Front Conure and she talks but not a lot but even though she doesn't talk she is a huge love. She learns things and is also a very smart bird.

  10. Birds as pets aren't necessarily fun and you can't necessarily teach them to talk either. They wake up at dawn and chirp for an hour or more and they don't really show affection.

I also think it is cruel to keep a bird in a cage and probably clip it's wings. Birds were meant to fly and be free.

Best of luck on your quest for a good pet though :)

I would just get a kitten....they are guaranteed to be fun.

  11. i love birds too i have one now a parakeet the best thing to do is try to buy a young bird and have the wings clipped so it will be easier to tame and rely more on you i had a parakeet tiki and he was very tamed he played hide and seek with me :)

  12. sure

  13. No, they c**p on your car.

  14. A word of advice: if you want a pet bird just so it can talk, don't get one, because there's a good chance that you'll be disappointed. The talking ability of each bird depends on the individual bird's personality -- yes, not even species! I've known African Grey parrots that never talked. Above all, it will be a LOT of effort on your part, hours of daily repetitive training and interaction to keep the bird happy -- an unhappy bird rarely learns to talk.

And on top of that, most pet birds are messy, loud, sensitive and require daily attention -- anywhere from 30 minutes to six hours daily at minimum, depending on species. And then there are the behavioural issues and precautions -- most cleaners and aerosol sprays shouldn't be used around birds, most cookware and appliances that are nonstick are deadly when heated, kids and other pets need to be heavily supervised. Plus, pet birds are a lifelong commitment that can live anywhere from 20 to 80 years and suffer trauma if they're abandoned, because they're so intelligent.

If you're willing to go through that, then a pet bird can reap truly great rewards for you. And always adopt a bird instead of buying one, since there are so many good abandoned birds out there that need good homes. Visit www.avianwelfare.org to visit your nearest parrot shelter.

  15. The talking birds are difficult to take care of (not to mention expensive)! They have set diets, need a lot of attention, showers, etc., and if not properly trained they have a big chance of being screamers/biters. If you want one you have to be prepared to spend money and time on both the bird and researching how to best take care of it. They are very fun, however - anyone who has a well taken care of bird will agree.

Some smaller birds, cockatiels for example, can learn small phrases, whisles, and tricks. They also need a lot of attention and care (I have one), but are reasonably easy to care for. If you're a first-time bird owner I'd look into getting one of them before a parrot or other talking bird.
