Are birthdays always special, or fun?

On my last birthday my dad seemed miserable, and it made it difficult for me to celebrate my birthday, and feel that it was a good, or special day. Are your birthdays always enjoyable, or a disappointment?

My birthdays have been both.

There have been times when I have been alone and at work so I have created my own fun. e.g. put a notice outside the business wishing me a happy birthday. It was amazing how many people walking past stuck their head in the door and wished me a happy birthday.

Another time I decided to do something that I had never done before. I went test driving new cars. Had a ball, felt good and got to drive some really nice cars.

I always make sure I have something extra special to eat during the day to celebrate.

My family ever made any kind of deal about birthdays, so I don't really think about them too much. My husbands family makes them special, so if my husband is not out of town working, they are made into a big thing.  

One thing though, I think because my family never really celebrated birthdays, I never think about ageing.  I have never been ashamed to say how old I am.  Mind you, I look at least ten yrs younger than my age, so that could have something to do with it, too.

It does depend on how you think of them, especially milestone ones such as thirty, thirty-five, forty, and so on.

They're usually pretty fun and yes, they are special.  I had a pretty chill b'day this year, sushi with my guy and some drinks.

My birthdays are disappointing. No present. No celebration. Little or no money. It doesn't bother me I suppose. Just another year closer to 6 foot under really. My birthday's at the beginning of the school year, September 4th, so they're always lame.

I got locked in my room on my 13th birthday because my bad mark (grades) from the previous year moved me down a class when I started the new year.

My mother got so annoyed that she blocked my bedroom door. Fun fun.

They should always be special. I have had one or two that were a disappointment though. It's just life though, things can't always be enjoyable, even birthdays. Maybe next year will be a better one.

sometimes they aren't fun. like one year i had a birthday party and i didn't enjoy it and my friends didn't get along either.
