Are black cats lucky in Japan?

I read somewhere that black cats are considered good luck in Japan b/c the Japanese bobtail is rarely black. I forgot where I may have read it and I want to know if there is any truth to it.

    My cat once attracted a black cat to our house and when he passed by me when i tried to give it food, i found $30 on the street!!! I dont know why people think they're unlucky in the US
