Are black people an ethnicity?

Most people use the term "black" in a racial way(everyone with african ancestry) yet at the same time they don't include all of the black diaspora with it(like black hispanics, haitians, etc). Doesn't that mean "black" is really an ethnic term?

  1. Black is a race. Hispanic is an ethnicity, therefore Hispanics can be White, Black, Indian mix.


  2. Guess your right, It does seem that way. Blacks are such a big race that today there beginning to classify themselves ethnically. Like Black Hispanics thinking there different to African Americans, when in truth we all came from the same place.

  3. They are an ethnicity in USA. It's based on the Bible, one of Noah's sons, I believe, NOT on genetics.

    EG: Chinese and Japanese. Both Asian, different ethnicities.

  10. Well, I do understand your point. As an African American, sometimes the community tries to specify their origin by calling themselves black. Black meaning African American.  So, this can be true, if you are an African American, i am sure that you heard when people try to differentiate between Africans and African Americans in the USA, the refer to African-Americans as "Black". "Black" consists of the various events such as slavery,civil rights movement and other racists acts that happened while in AMERICA. Therefore, the black diaspora you are referring to does not apply. However, to some Caucasians, they do not see the difference and refer to all dark-skin human beings as Black, because they do not know what connotation is attached to such term.  Hope that helped!
